Connecticut’s 2020 Sales Tax Free Week August 16-22

August 15, 2020

During this one week also known as sales tax holiday, retail purchases of most clothing and footwear items priced under $100 are exempt from Connecticut sales and use tax. Connecticut’s Sales Tax-Free Week was enacted as part of the biennial budget that was signed into law last year by the governor.

Because the Covid-19 pandemic has left many families struggling to make ends meet, I am hoping that this year the tax-free holiday will help consumers save a little for the back-to-school preparations, while supporting our local businesses.

While shopping, please keep your safety and the safety of those around you a priority by wearing face coverings and maintaining social distancing, as well as following all the recommended precautions and guidelines, to help limit the potential spread of Covid-19.

Specific information on Connecticut’s Sales Tax Free Week, including a listing of individual items that are exempt or taxable, can be found by visiting the Department of Revenue Services website at https://portal.ct.gov/drs and clicking the “2020 Sales Tax Free Week” link.
