Legislative update - Bills Passed May 26
May 27, 2021I am pleased to provide you with a summary of some of the legislation we addressed yesterday.
HB 6509
This past year has served to further emphasized the need to better support the mental, emotional, and behavioral health of our students. HB 6509 expands student's access to these critically needed services through school-based mental health clinics.
HB 6034
Project Longevity offers communities with comprehensive, evidence-based resources to work together with state and local partners to reduce chronic violence. A number of Connecticut's cities and towns have had success with this program, but HB 6034 would prioritize plans to expand this community-based solution statewide.
State Representative Linda Orange was a long-serving legislator with friends on both sides of the aisle. Her loss in 2019 is still felt today. As a member of the Public Safety Committee, Representative Orange worked tirelessly to ensure the State Police, and specifically Troop K, had proper funding and the dispatch center adequately staffed. We are honoring legacy naming her beloved Troop K State Police Barracks in her memory.
I will continue to keep you updated in the coming days on the legislation we pass to make Connecticut an even better place to live, work and play.
