State Bond Commission Approves $1.5 Million in Funding for New London Projects

December 21, 2021

State Rep. Anthony Nolan (D – New London) and State Rep. Joe de la Cruz (D – New London, Groton) are pleased to announce that Governor Ned Lamont and the State Bond Commission approved $1.5 million in funding for Toby May Park improvements and renovation projects for New London judicial buildings.

With the allotted funding of $583,244, Toby May Park will receive improvements to provide a safe and functional recreational space for children of all ages. The current playground area, installed over a decade ago, is deteriorating. The updated equipment will be designed to withstand weathering and frequent use. The park will also have a new, functional bathroom facility built, as well as a pavilion.

The GA 10 Courthouse and the New London Judicial District Superior Court will receive $975,000 for building updates and repairs, such as HVAC System upgrades and roof restoration.

"New London is thankful to the Bond Commission and Governor Ned Lamont for hearing New London’s need to make renovations to the judicial buildings in our district; along with being able to make needed updates to Toby May Park to insure our residents; especially children can continue to have a healthy, fun and safe place to spend time outside," said Rep. Nolan. "Special thanks to Mayor Michael Passero, Public Works Director Brian Sears and our amazing Grant Writer, Adriana Reyes. Your teamwork to help make this happen is greatly appreciated."

"Toby May Park is a great spot for residents of all ages to enjoy outdoor activities. This grant will allow the city to make improvements to the park, ensuring that it will continue to be an integral part of our community. I am also thrilled that the New London Superior Court has received funding to undertake much needed renovation projects. I'd like to thank the Bonding Commission and Governor Lamont for their continued support of New London," said Rep. de la Cruz

Governor Lamont serves as the chairman of the State Bond Commission and determines which projects are placed on the agenda. The emphasis for the December 21, 2021 approved bonding is primarily on transportation system improvements, with $839 million approved, and small business and job growth, with $124 million in funding being allocated toward that cause.
