Rep. Boyd Hails State Bonding for Pomfret Library Expansion

December 21, 2021

State Representative Pat Boyd (D – Brooklyn, Eastford, Pomfret, Union, Woodstock) is pleased to welcome $421,800 in state bonding for the expansion of the Pomfret Public Library located at 449 Pomfret Street (Route 44). The Connecticut State Bond Commission approved the funding during its meeting today, December 21.

“The Pomfret Public Library expansion is a critical investment in our community, helping to transform it into a modern community and library space," said Rep. Boyd. "I want to extend my thanks to Governor Lamont and members of the State Bond Commission for considering the project and approving funding for it. A library with updated technology and amenities will provide a more connected and enriching experience to residents."

The project scope includes an addition to the south side of the Pomfret Library which will include about 2,000 square-feet of meeting space to support events and programming for groups of 8 to 60 individuals. The expansion also includes a lounge and café, conference room and archives, activity space for Story Time, Maker Space, crafts, games and STEAM, as well as restrooms, art gallery, and patio connecting to the existing deck, gardens, and walking trail.

“The volunteer committee has worked hard for years to develop Library plans and solicit private donations. This funding from the State will put the construction of the project in motion” said First Selectwoman Maureen Nicholson (D-Pomfret).

Rooms will be available for after-hours meetings of boards, clubs, and other organizations. All rooms will be equipped with computers, fiber optic internet, wi-fi, and audio and visual equipment.

The project remains on track and construction is expected to begin in 2023. Additional information about the expansion is available on the Pomfret Public Library website, www.pomfretlibrary.org.
