Dear Neighbor,

I'm so excited to have been re-elected to serve another term as your State Representative! On January 4, myself and my colleagues will be sworn in for our next two-year term. Then, it's right back to work and begin the 2023 legislative session.

The upcoming session is known as a "long session" and runs from January to June. Compared to the "short session," during the long session we have more time to pass more significant bills and craft a new state budget.
It'll be incredibly busy and there will be a lot that we get done in those few months. I intend to continue using these eblasts to keep you all updated with everything that is happening at the Capitol, so be sure to let your neighbors know that they can sign up to receive emails and stay up to date. To sign up, all they'll need to do is head to my website and scroll down to find the form – input their info and they're good to go!

I'm really looking forward to the upcoming session. As always if you have any issues, need a question answered, or just want to share your thoughts on making our communities and state a great place to live, don't hesitate to reach out by email at Jaime.Foster@cga.ct.gov or by phone, (860) 240-8585.

DPH Remote Public Hearing
This morning, the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) held a remote Public Hearing to receive feedback on the public on the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

As most of you know, I've been working hard to get clean drinking water in every Ellington, East Windsor, and Vernon neighborhood with contamination. Depending on where you are on your journey with a contaminated well, you might have already met with DPH regarding the Drinking Water SRF. There is now a historic amount of money in this fund and DPH has put forward a draft plan for the funding.

HVAC Update Projects
In the last legislative session, we created a grant program that our schools are now eligible for. This bill was in many ways a compromise that allowed for improvement of air quality without creating a locally unfunded mandate.

Ellington Public Schools has quickly put together a proposal eligible for this grant program. I urge you to read more about it, and as always, I encourage everyone to vote!

Green Building & Our Climate Future
I had the opportunity to join the Connecticut Sustainable Business Council and Connecticut Green Building Council at Earthlight Technologies, LLC last week to talk about "green" building and our climate future. We're at an important time as government officials, particularly members of the General Assembly's Energy and Technology Committee. With the growing momentum, large federal funds through the Inflation Reduction Act, and on the heels of COP27 – the time is now.

Support for Homeowners Impacted by Crumbling Foundations
I'd like to send a "thank you" to U.S. Representative Joe Courtney for working to secure more support for homeowners impacted by crumbling foundations. Last week, I sat down with the Capitol Region Council of Government Committee on Crumbling Foundations to discuss the funding – more details to come!

Veterans Day at Ellington High School

I had the privilege to attend the Veterans Day Ceremony at Ellington High School. As always, there ceremony was beautiful. If you missed it, you can check it out here.

Small Business Saturday

November 26 is Small Business Saturday – a day to support small businesses and show how much we appreciate the entrepreneurs that make up the fabric of our vibrant communities.

As they work to recover from the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic, our patronage will help them not only recover, but prosper so they may in turn continue to contribute to the local and state economy.
To help those already in business or those working to start one, Business.CT.gov provides services for registering and managing compliance needs. The portal aims to encourage entrepreneurship and business growth while working to reduce some of the risk that comes with starting a business.

Our small businesses are at the heart of our communities. This holiday season, find a gift for everyone on your list and let’s keep the holiday spirit of giving alive by shopping, eating, and celebrating locally.
