Dear Neighbor,

I hope that this email finds you well. The Connecticut General Assembly has been in session since January 5th and is hard at work. This "long" session runs until the second week in June (which differs from a "short" session that goes from February to May). Our primary task is to adopt a 46-billion-dollar biennial state budget.

This session, I am serving as the House Chairman of the Public Safety & Security Committee. We have been working on a package of 38 bills that strengthen the state's Fire Service, EMS, and Policing response to the community.

Since redistricting has brought Ashford, Hampton & a part of Mansfield to the 50th District, I have spent time in those towns talking with community leaders, non-profit organizations, and businesses to understand their challenges and needs better. This is something that I will continue to do.

Ashford
Last week in Ashford, I joined the Board & CEO of the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp along with Governor Ned Lamont for the ribbon cutting of the new Creative Complex that was lost to a fire in 2021. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, founded in 1988 by actor Paul Newman, provides a "different kind of healing" to thousands of seriously ill children and their family members free of charge. Additionally, the Chief Officers of the Ashford, Eastford, UConn & Mansfield Fire Departments were present to see the project come full circle as they battled the fire on that cold winter day. Hampton
In Hampton, I recently joined a panel of legislators from Northeastern Connecticut at the EASTCONN headquarters to talk about the legislative session and answer business leaders' questions. The event was sponsored by the Northeastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce, the leading voice for business in the Quiet Corner. Over the years, I have enjoyed a productive relationship with the Chamber.

Pomfret
I was honored to be present today for the opening of the new 2nd office of the Pomfret-based Weiss, Hale & Zahansky Strategic Wealth Advisors in Tolland on Rt. 195. It's always great to see a small local business thrive and expand in Northeastern Connecticut.

Agriculture Week Recap
Last week was Agriculture Week, and at the invitation of the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, Bryan Hurlburt, I attended a press conference promoting Connecticut's agribusiness.

It was great to join Connecticut Farm Bureau President Paul Larson (Sprucedale Gardens) of Woodstock, Austin Tanner (Creamery Brook Bison) of Brooklyn, Stacey Stearns (Mountain Dairy) of Mansfield, and Governor Ned Lamont advocating for policies that foster the growth of agriculture & agribusiness which is a significant provider and economic driver here in Northeastern Connecticut.

As the session continues, please do not hesitate to email me or call my office at (860) 240-8585 if you have any questions or to share your view on legislation being debated in Hartford. As your voice, I need to hear from you to make informed decisions. I regularly post updates on the session on my social media channels (you can like my Facebook page here) and encourage you to follow them to stay updated.

Take Care,

Pat Boyd
