Updates from State Rep. Farley Santos for July 25, 2025

July 25, 2025

I am proud to share that for the 2025 legislative session, I received a 91% voting score from the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters in its 2025 Environmental Scorecard.

At a time when we are seeing more of the effects of climate change, as well as trying to reduce our reliance on nonrenewable fossil fuels and our carbon footprint, these votes are more important now than ever and something I take very seriously.

I will continue to support protecting the environment, preserving our natural resources and fighting for environmental justice in our communities.

A Day in the Life, Danbury Style

Busy Saturday last week in Danbury!

I started the day canvassing and talking to residents about the issues that matter most.

Grabbed a delicious lunch at St. Ann Melkite Catholic Church in support of the Feasts of St. Elias and St. Ann...

... then made my way to the Beaver Street Block Party where I caught up with several friends.

Swung by the Dominican Community Center’s Women’s Softball Championship, then stopped for a few to catch the Danbury Youth Baseball Hat City Bombers 12U — who swept both games of their doubleheader against a Bronx team!

Ended the day celebrating bright futures at the Latino Scholarship Fund Gala and made a quick stop at the Italian Club to visit some familiar faces.

So proud to see all this energy, culture, and community happening right here in Danbury. This is what community is all about!

Economic Growth

All of this work and positive energy are terrific on their own. But they also have been generating exciting economic news, too.

Akash Monpara, the 30-year-old president of AB Electronics, recently told the NewsTimes that his high-tech company -- which recently moved from Brookfield to Danbury -- is potentially poised for fourfold growth over the next five years.

That includes expanding operations at its new 60,000-square-foot manufacturing plant on the west side, and growing from 60 employees in the city to possibly 150 in the coming years.

West Nile Virus Alert

A pool of mosquitoes has tested positive for West Nile Virus in nearby Easton at the Sport Hill Road collection site, according to the CT Mosquito Management Program.

Mosquitoes have also tested positive for West Nile Virus in Bridgeport and Stamford.

While there have been no reported human cases of West Nile Virus in Connecticut so far this season, a reminder that residents should take steps to prevent mosquito bites at this time of year. Those steps include the following:

  • Minimize time spent outdoors between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
  • While outdoors, use mosquito repellents containing an EPA-registered active ingredient, including DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus, para-menthane-diol (PMD), or 2-undecanone. EPA registration of skin-applied repellent products indicates that they have been evaluated and approved for human safety and effectiveness when applied according to instructions on the label.
  • Wear shoes, socks, long pants, and a long-sleeved shirt when outdoors for long periods of time, or when mosquitoes are more active. Clothing should be light-colored, loose-fitting, and made of tightly woven materials that keep mosquitoes away from the skin.
  • Wear clothing and gear treated with permethrin, an insecticide that kills or repels mosquitoes and ticks.
  • Be sure door and window screens are tight-fitting and in good repair.
  • When sleeping outdoors, use tents or mosquito netting in an unscreened structure. Treat camping gear with permethrin when possible.
  • Cover strollers and baby carriers with mosquito nets when outside.

For more information on the latest testing results and locations visit: the CT Mosquito Management Program and the CT Agricultural Experiment Station.

As always, please reach out to my office if you have any comments, questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Farley Santos
State Representative
