Updates from State Rep. Larry Butler for July 18, 2025

July 18, 2025

Exciting news for Waterbury: the city will receive approximately $4 million from the state to support the replacement of the Brown Street Bridge over Great Brook. This is a major win for our community – improving infrastructure, enhancing public safety, and creating good-paying construction jobs.

This funding comes as part of a broader $17.3 million investment through the State Local Bridge Program, which is supporting 15 projects across Connecticut. The program is designed to help municipalities maintain and modernize locally owned bridges, ensuring they remain safe and reliable for all travelers.

Importantly, the Local Bridge Program operates as a cost-sharing initiative, covering 50% of the total project cost – a huge help for cities like Waterbury where infrastructure repairs are urgent but often unaffordable without state support.

This investment reflects a long-term commitment to building stronger, safer communities.

LOTCIP Grant

More great news for infrastructure: Waterbury is receiving a $12 million grant from the DOT for Phase 2 of the North Main, South Main, Bank Street, Exchange Place project.

The grant is part of $57.3 million the DOT awarded for 17 projects across Connecticut through the Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP). The program, which was created in 2013, provides state dollars in lieu of federal funds to municipalities to help execute important local infrastructure projects.

As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please reach out to my office.

Sincerely,

Larry B. Butler
