Applauding Millions in Funding Coming Back to the 38th District

May 2, 2026

With a focus on supporting education, subsidizing childcare, and providing for municipal services, State Rep. Nick Gauthier, D-38 is applauding millions of dollars in additional funding for the 38th District — comprising Waterford and a portion of Montville — in the second year of Connecticut’s biennial budget.

Working in collaboration with fellow legislative leaders, Gauthier helped secure $3.5 million in additional funding for Montville for the 2026-27 fiscal year, and $186,000 for Waterford. The lion’s share of the increase in funding comes from the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Fund Grant and a Supplemental Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Grant.

Rep. Gauthier has further secured $132,000 in the biennium budget to eliminate two years of accumulated school-meal debt for the Waterford and Montville districts.

In total, Montville will receive $21.3 million in state funding for the 2026–27 budget year, and Waterford will receive approximately $1.54 million for 2026–27.

“I’m proud that the Mohegan Tribe and Foxwoods continue to generate significant revenue that benefits our communities,” Gauthier said. “This increased municipal aid will help reduce reliance on local property taxes while ensuring our towns can continue delivering essential services and investing in education for residents.

The increased funding to the district is part of a budget led by House and Senate Democrats that provides a $300-plus million relief package for cities, towns and schools, which Gauthier supported.

“We are supporting the needs of Connecticut working families, from funding public education, subsidizing childcare, covering healthcare costs, and helping our towns lower their reliance on regressive local property taxes. Our state budget and 2025-2026 legislative package supports those who struggle to afford their housing costs and lifts the burden of high property taxes,” Gauthier said.

The budget now heads to the governor’s desk for signature.

Sincerely,

Nick Gauthier
State Representative
