One of the major achievements of the past legislative session was the passage HB7162, which updated Connecticut's antiquated towing laws. 

Some of the changes in the bill, which was signed into law on June 10, include:

  • Tow companies are now required to accept credit cards
  • Tow companies are prohibited from towing vehicles because of an expired parking permit
  • Vehicles cannot be towed from private property without notice unless it is blocking traffic, a fire hydrant, or illegally parked in an accessible space

Predatory towing practices can have a devastating financial impact, especially for those who are working paycheck to paycheck. 

I believe the bill achieves a fair and practical balance protecting consumers from excessive costs, while ensuring that towing operators can continue to serve the public safely and efficiently.
 

Early Voting

Early voting will start on Monday, Oct. 20, and end Sunday, Nov. 2.  Hours are daily (Sunday through Saturday) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except on Tuesday, Oct. 28, and Thursday, Oct. 30, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Same-day registration will be available during early voting hours and on Election Day. 

Early voting will take place at Norwalk City Hall Community Room, 125 East Ave.

Absentee Ballots must be received by 8 p.m., before closing on Nov. 4, Election Day.  Please mail your ballot early so it's received before polls close on Nov. 4.

For voters with sudden health or mobility issues, curbside voting will be available during early Voting at City Hall (off Sunset Hill). Look for the signs and call upon arrival. A phone number will be posted.

Halloween Nightfair

Norwalk's annual Nightfair celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25, from 2 to 10 p.m.

One of the biggest fall celebrations in the city, Nightfair transforms Washington Street in South Norwalk into a fun-filled festival with music, food, shopping and other entertainment. There will be pumpkin painting, face painting, games, and a trick-or-treat trail, among other things.

Pumpkin Painting

More Halloween fun -- pumpkin painting -- is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25, from noon to 4 p.m. at Calf Pasture Beach. Details below.

Week Without Violence

In an effort to raise awareness and end gender-based violence, the city of Norwalk and the YWCA Darien/Norwalk are partnering on a Week Without Violence from Oct. 21 to 25. The event coincides with October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 

The YWCA Darien/Norwalk‘s events include the following: 

  • a "Healthy Teen Dating" webinar in partnership with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center;
  • a self-defense training class for women and girls 12 and older
  • and Illumination Night, when homes, businesses, and civic spaces across our community light up in solidarity with survivors.
