On Wednesday, January 4 - Opening Day of Session - I stood to take the oath of office for my second term, and then immediately left to sit next to my beloved mother, Martha “Marti” Barrett as she passed away after many years of health struggles.

I am pleased to report that responsible budgeting and major structural changes made to pension and teachers' retirements plans are putting Connecticut on much more solid fiscal ground and saving taxpayers billions in debt payments.

To continue our efforts in easing the burden on families, my colleagues and I Monday, voted to extend sweeping tax relief for the state, provide additional funding for energy assistance programs, and continue premium pay for frontline workers.

Whether you are traveling to a destination, or staying home for a feast, I wish you all a joyous day with loved ones to reflect on what we are thankful for.

We are all so grateful for you and what you’ve given to our communities, our state, and our country.

The General Election 4 days away!

I am excited to share that the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven is slated to receive $7.2 million in grant funding, which it will use to build a more equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem and a more resilient small business landscape in Greater New Haven.
