Celebrating Juneteenth

June 18, 2026

Juneteenth isn’t just Black history — it’s American history.

And for predominantly white communities, celebrating Juneteenth is an opportunity to fully engage with that history, not just parts of it.

Juneteenth marks the delayed freedom of enslaved people in Texas — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. That gap tells us something important: Freedom in this country has never been evenly or immediately realized.

When communities come together to recognize Juneteenth, it’s not about guilt — it’s about understanding, acknowledgment, and shared responsibility. It’s about recognizing how our past shapes present-day disparities, and how we all play a role in building a more equitable future.

Celebrating Juneteenth in every community helps ensure that this history isn’t sidelined — it’s honored, learned from, and carried forward.

Because a stronger, more united society starts with telling the full story.

“What I love about Juneteenth is that even in that extended wait, we still find something to celebrate. Even though the story has never been tidy and Black folks have had to march and fight for every inch of our freedom, our story is nonetheless one of progress.” — Michelle Obama

Happy Juneteenth!
