Testifying on Increasing the Minimum Wage

February 17, 2017

It is time we start paying a living wage! The typical minimum wage worker in Connecticut is a woman in her 30's with children. When we pay people poverty level wages, taxpayers have to make up the difference.

Raising the minimum wage to $15 would positively affect workers, businesses, taxpayers and even help spur the economy.

That is why I have supported the following bills:

  • HB 6901, which would state costs relating to services provided to workers who earn a low wage
  • SB 13, which would increase the minimum fair wage to fifteen dollars in five yearly increments
  • HB 6212, which would provide paid family and medical leave

I testified in favor of these bills yesterday at the Labor and Public Employees Committee Public Hearing.
