$545,000 In Funding to Address Solid Waste Crisis

April 17, 2025

I am pleased to share the Town of Stratford is receiving approximately $545,000 in state grants to reduce our municipal waste disposal costs and protect our environment. The funds, which I strongly advocated for, will help our community develop waste management infrastructure to help divert valuable recyclable and compostable material from disposal.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) allocated an unprecedented $15 million across the state for this sustainable initiative as part of the Material Management Infrastructure Grant Program.

The funding will go toward increasing:
  • Recycling
  • Food scrap diversion and processing equipment
  • Composting and anaerobic digestion facilities
  • Infrastructure for managing hard-to-recycle materials

As former chair of the Environment Committee, it's gratifying DEEP acknowledged Stratford as a partner in solving Connecticut's waste crisis. I thank the agency for its leadership and commitment to finding sustainable solutions for greener and more responsible waste management system across Connecticut.
