The state’s consumer counsel Monday requested an investigation into “abusive” marketing practices by electric suppliers after seeing “repeated troubling allegations” from customers.

Consumer Counsel Erin Katz filed a petition urging the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to open an investigation after reviewing complaints that, she said, show a pattern among some third-party energy suppliers targeting seniors, low-income residents, non-native English speakers, and other “vulnerable” populations.
