The state will raise a section of Route 113 near Sikorsky Airport and install a cofferdam system to prevent flooding. This is a temporary fix as the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) works on a new design for a bridge in the area. It’s a complicated process because this stretch of Route 113 runs through an environmentally sensitive tidal wetland with challenging soil conditions. Crews would also have to construct the bridge over a water line, electricity, and a gas main.
Crews will raise Route 113 as CTDOT works on a design for a new bridge.
CTDOT signed an emergency declaration to raise Route 113 because it has been sinking due to the flooding. Rising sea levels have led to intermittent road closures, and we all want to ensure that a new bridge along the coastline will be a permanent solution. I would like to thank CTDOT for declaring this emergency so funds can be allocated to this project.
