A Memorable Visit from Nichols Elementary

June 2, 2025

I had the distinct honor of welcoming an enthusiastic group of fourth and fifth grade students from Nichols Elementary School to the House chamber during their recent visit to the State Capitol. Their trip was organized with the League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan organization I deeply admire and fully support for its dedication to civic education and empowering future voters.

During their visit, my colleagues recognized the students on the House floor, a moment that highlighted the importance of civic engagement and the role young people play in shaping our democracy. It was truly inspiring to see their excitement as they toured the Capitol on Stratford Day, learned about the legislative process, and saw firsthand how our government works.

They asked thoughtful questions, demonstrated genuine curiosity, and brought an infectious energy to the building. Experiences like this can spark a lifelong interest in public service and civic responsibility.

Thank you to the League of Women's Voters, the dedicated teachers, and the chaperones who helped make this special day possible. It was a joy to witness these bright, young minds engaging with democracy in action.
