Rep. Gregg Haddad, House chairman of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, issued the following statement Thursday after Gov. Ned Lamont announced his appointment of Dan Toscano as the UConn Board of Trustees’ new chairman and Scott Cowen as a board member.

“If bleeding blue is the most important requirement to be a great chairman of the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees, then Governor Lamont has made a good choice. Dan Toscano did solid work as chairman of the UConn Foundation and I have been impressed by his commitment to students and his generosity. I look forward to hearing more about his vision for the future of our flagship university.

“I think Scott Cowen’s experience as a college president and his impressive credentials as a serious academic should be helpful to the Trustees. He has a broad range of experiences and I look forward to hearing more about his service to Tulane University.”
