The higher education community is facing daunting challenges.
To address one of the more pressing issues, on Thursday, I stood with students, colleagues and advocates in support of Senate Bill 5, which seeks to make the largest increase in scholarship funding in decades, investing in college accessibility and a highly skilled workforce.
It's one of the best investments that we can make.
We need to keep our best and brightest students here in Connecticut by making college affordable.

Speaking of investments in education, last week, I stood with faculty at UConn as they shared personal experiences that make the case for guaranteed, paid parental and caregiver leave.
Life events like the birth or adoption of a child, or to care for a family member is a basic benefit that should be available to everyone. |

I want to say welcome to the new firefighters and thank you for your service to the town. |

Support your local farmers and get fresh produce!
From the town of Mansfield Facebook Page: By purchasing a CSA share at the beginning of the season, you become a member of the farm for the entire season. Your investment helps farmers with the season startup costs of seeds, livestock care, labor, and equipment maintenance.
In return, you will receive a weekly or biweekly share of the farm’s harvest at a designated time and location, allowing you to enjoy fresh, seasonal products.
Sometimes shares also include maple syrup, meat, milk, eggs -- and fresh vegetables and fruits.
I’ve been a member of a local CSA for a nearly a decade, and our family looks forward to our farm visit each week during the harvest season.
Find a local CSA here. CTNOFA also maintains a list of CSAs statewide here. |

Severe Cold Weather Protocol in Effect |
|
|
Governor Ned Lamont announced last week that the state’s severe cold weather protocol will be in effect until noon on Saturday, Feb. 22. During this time, temperatures are expected to drop to the single-digits.
While activated, the protocol initiates a series of actions to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe cold.
To find warming centers, call 2-1-1. |
