New Parking Garage Opens & Urgent Plea To Fund Nonprofits

February 28, 2024

Our brand new train station parking garage is officially open to the public! Please keep reading to learn about the facility's awesome features that were worth the wait.

Some of my colleagues are urging the state to boost funding for nonprofit organizations all over Connecticut. I'll break down why it's so important to help nonprofits right now.

And the city is preparing for the Saint Patrick's Day Parade downtown! You have to keep scrolling to learn where the parade route is going this year.

Opening of New Parking Garage

Commuters in Stamford can now enjoy the brand new parking garage at the Stamford Transportation Center. Governor Ned Lamont, Connecticut Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto, and members of the Stamford delegation gathered for the grand opening on Monday.

Here are some of the features of the new garage:

  • 914 parking spaces
  • 92 electric vehicle charging stations
  • 120 bicycle parking spaces
  • 50 electric bike charging stations
  • 320-foot pedestrian bridge connecting commuters to platform heading to Grand Central
  • Façade with color changing LED lights to commemorate events and holidays

We are lucky to have one of the best build this garage, and I appreciate all the work despite the elements and sometimes scarcely available materials imposing delays. Thank you to Mr. Alan Harrington from Yonkers Concrete who supervised the entire site during construction.

The parking garage project included the reconstruction of the South State Street and Washington Boulevard intersection, making it safer for all roadway users with new sidewalks, traffic signals, and thermal crosswalks.

The state funded the $100 million project through bond funding. Crews will begin tearing down the original garage within the next month. Following that work, the Stamford Transportation Center will have nearly 2,100 parking spaces – an increase of 600 spaces from what was previously available.

In addition, The Connecticut Department of Transportation released Stamford Transportation Center Master Plan, which serves as the state’s vision for future improvements that can be made at Connecticut’s busiest public transportation hub.

Urgent Plea to Fund Our Nonprofits
I support advocates and fellow lawmakers who urge the state to increase funding for nonprofits across Connecticut. Nonprofits provide many affordable and efficient services that serve as a safety net to a wide range of individuals who need help in different arenas. These vital programs cannot continue to function with limited resources and low wages. Fair and adequate funding will ensure nonprofits get the support they need and deserve in Connecticut.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Be sure to keep an eye on the weather as the city prepares for the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Stamford! The big event starts at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at Hoyt and Summer Streets and will head south, taking a left on Broad Street, followed by a sharp left onto Bedford Street towards Latham Park.

Bring your loved ones and enjoy the festive atmosphere with colorful floats, lively music, and the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day!
