WATCH: Allowing Homeless Shelters on Religious Properties

March 25, 2024

We need to show a sense of urgency for our growing homeless population as  Connecticut has seen more elderly people and families lose their homes.

Last week, the Planning & Development Committee advanced a bill that would provide temporary shelter for the homeless and refugees on property owned by religious organizations. If these organizations decide to help people in dire need of security and warmth, every municipality in Connecticut should be eligible to do the same.

The video below includes some of my comments as well as Planning & Development Committee Co-Chairs Rep. Kavros-DeGraw and Sen. MD Rahman, who like me is an immigrant. His words were extremely touching.
