Representative Haddad Recognizes Sarah Kaufold and the Singers of Songs of Comfort as Community Heroes

May 14, 2020

Mansfield, Conn. – In early April, State Representative Gregory Haddad (D-Mansfield) issued a call for nominations of individuals in Mansfield who are going above and beyond, working and volunteering to help the community through the challenges of social distancing under Covid-19.

This week's honoree is Sarah Kaufold, the cofounder of Songs for Comfort, which produces free choral arrangements and performances of music to brighten the day of those in hospitals recovering from Coronavirus. The group has a website and YouTube channel

"Music can help bring comfort to those who need it most right now," reads a blurb on the homepage of their website. "Songs can keep us connected."

"What Sarah and this group has done is a true service to those who are sick. And it has helped a community of singers and musicians remain connected," Rep. Haddad said. "She helps to create joy for those who need it most. Thank you for bringing a bit of light to this challenging moment."

Sarah and Songs for Comfort received two separate nominations from Bobbi and Kelly.

"Sarah has done so much to try and keep us choral singers connected and singing through all this, from co-founding Songs of Comfort, to offering virtual rehearsals for her choirs," Bobbi wrote. "It has meant so much to me personally, especially the fact that it allows us singers to share music with those who need it. "

Previous nominees include, Louis GoffinetDr. Neil Moynahanthe Food Service Staff at the Mansfield Schools, and a group of local facemask sewers. Rep. Haddad is still accepting nominations for community heroes. Those who have a nominee in mind can send in a photo, name, and a few sentences about why they are nominating a community hero to Gregory.Haddad@cga.ct.gov.
