Let's Walk Against Hunger This September

August 31, 2020

The ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic has been life-changing, impacting families across our state and region. If you are able to, please consider joining the Newington Human Services Department Food Bank and me in raising awareness of food insecurity and resources to directly assist those in need.

From September 13 through 19, Foodshare is holding its 37th annual Walk Against Hunger to combat hunger in Hartford and Tolland counties. This year's event will be virtual, and participants will walk 1.5 miles anywhere they choose, even in their home, during the week of September 13-19. Learn more about the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger here.

I have been selected as a co-captain of the Newington Human Services/Food Bank team to raise awareness and assist families throughout our town. So far, Newington Human Services/Food Bank has raised over 50 percent of its $2,000 fundraising goal, which will be used to purchase food and other critical supplies for the Newington Food Bank.

If you are interested in joining the Walk Against Hunger, register using the button below. If you would like your donation to directly benefit the Newington Human Services Food Bank, make sure you select Newington Human Services/Food Bank when choosing a team.

If you or someone you know needs food assistance, the Newington Food Bank can help eligible residents. Newington residents can call 860-665-8590 to schedule an appointment with a human services representative to determine their eligibility for the food bank and other programs and resources.

The Foodshare Mobile Food Bank can also help families access food. The Foodshare van is in Newington every other Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at 84 Market Square. The September Foodshare Mobile dates for Newington will be September 10 and 24.

More information, as well as the 2020 Foodshare Mobile schedule, can be found here.
