ELLIOTT APPOINTED CHAIR OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT ADVANCEMENT COMMITTEE

(HARTFORD, CT) – House Speaker-designate Matt Ritter (D-Hartford) and House Majority Leader Jason Rojas (D-East Hartford) today appointed Representative Josh Elliott (D-Hamden) House chair of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee.

"Josh is an advocate for all. He is dedicated to promoting and maintaining the standard of high-quality education Connecticut is known for," speaker-designate Ritter said. "I have no doubt that he will fight for equitable and accessible resources to ensure the success of our state's young people."

Majority Leader Rojas said, "Over his first two terms in office Rep. Elliott has shown a clear ability to grasp the intricacies of the legislative process and the most pressing issues facing the state of Connecticut. He has approached many policy issues through the lens of equity and accessibility which is critical to strengthening our system of higher education and by extension our state's workforce. His time as vice-chair of the Commerce Committee provided him with an inside look of what businesses need in order to thrive across the state, and can integrate that knowledge into this new leadership role helping build a qualified workforce."

"As we continue to face uncertainty with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear we need to ensure that higher education is accessible to all Connecticut residents," Rep. Elliott said. "Whether it’s a four-year college or a job training program, education remains the key to a successful career."

Rep. Elliott represents the 88th Assembly District in Hamden and has served as the Assistant Majority Leader and vice-chair of the Commerce Committee. He is also a member of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee and Public Health Committee.
