Updates to Vaccine Recommendations

January 14, 2021

As Connecticut is getting ready to move into Phase 1B of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution schedule, many have discussed the potential vaccination inclusion of those 65 and older in the next phase. The Vaccine Advisory Group is prepared to address this topic in tonight's meeting, which you can learn more about and watch here.

Most recent, the Allocation Subcommittee met and arrived at the following outcome for their recommendation:

"In addition to those individuals aged 75 and over; the staff and residents of congregate settings; and other frontline essential workers, the following individuals should be included in Phase 1b of the COVID-19 Vaccine roll-out:

  • Individuals aged 65-74
  • Individuals with at least one CDC designated co-morbidity that places someone at an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19, aged 16-64

In addition, the Allocation Subcommittee recommended that the Department of Public Health:

  • Phase this roll-in based on risk of mortality [and severe illness]
  • Explicitly address issues of equity and the disparate impacts of COVID-19 in both the phase-in of these groups as well as the implementation of the vaccine roll-out"
