Great news for Norwalk!
Several local organizations will receive receive grant money to fund summer programs. This funding initiative is part of the Connecticut Summer Enrichment Program, where 110 organizations in Connecticut will be awarded more than $13 million in grants to provide educational opportunities to students during the summers of 2023 and 2024.
I am pleased to see that the Carver Foundation is being awarded grant money to help them continue the amazing work they do for the community. I was raised at the Carver Community Center, and I thank them for all the wonderful, enriching learning experiences they have provided students over the years.
The Connecticut Summer Enrichment Program was established in 2021 in response to K-12 students that the pandemic may have negatively impacted. These programs were created to connect students with low or no-cost, high-quality enrichment opportunities when they are out of school during the summer months.
The state projects that this program will serve more than 66,000 students over the next two summers.
So far, a total of $33 million has been dedicated to the program since its creation, with these resources coming from federal COVID-19 relief dollars the state received to support its response to the pandemic.
