August 28, 2025

Dear Neighbor,

I want to wish students and parents a happy return to school! This is always a time for emotion, including sadness over the end of summer, and the joy of starting a new year fresh. I hope everyone makes the transition safely and easily.

I also want to wish you a happy and safe Labor Day Weekend.

The Homeschoolers working group I organized has been disbanded after just two meetings. My intentions were good. Please see more details below, and enjoy this week's newsletter.

As always, please feel free to reach out to my office with any suggestions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Patrick Biggins
State Representative

Welcome Back Students

Happy Labor Day!

Around the 11th District

I joined U.S. House Representative John Larson at a forum in East Hartford on the 90th anniversary of Social Security and Congress's efforts to protect and make it stronger.

I was proud to join U.S. Representatives John Larson and Joe Courtney and other local leaders in Manchester recently to celebrate new federal funding for the district to help homeowners deal with the lasting damage of pyrrhotite-infused concrete in their foundations.

Millions of dollars of state-funded relief have flowed into impacted communities, including ours.

The money will be used for repairs not covered by the state’s program, which has provided much of the relief to this point.

I attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new professional development center in East Hartford Public Schools and a school-based health center at Norris Elementary.

CT Homeschoolers Working Group: An Update

I am saddened to say that our homeschoolers working group has been dissolved after two meetings. I intended to work with advocates, legislators, and the homeschool community to find a legislative solution that would suit everyone.

We got sidetracked aplenty in both gatherings. I'll have more input on the topic in my next newsletter, but the story below fairly depicts how things went during our gatherings. Please click on the image below.

Biggins Books

I love to read!

"Biggins Books" will highlight what I'm currently reading, all via audiobooks, and some highlights and thoughts about what I read.

Full disclosure? I hope that you're encouraged to pick up a book, any book, and just read. Reading is a wonderful way to relax, relieve stress, enhance brain activity, and more.

In the last few weeks, I've read:

Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green. This is a great book about the inequity in our global society and how we approach problems, mostly only when they affect us or those close to us.

The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali. This, too, is a great book that will have you in your emotions at many points. It offers a great opportunity to see into another society.

Bossypants by Tina Fey. This is a funny book about the real life of Tina Fey, and she is funny, but the scenarios she describes are how our society has placed unwritten requirements on certain industries.

Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister. This is a great book to read and talk about; it was impossible to predict what was going to happen.

On September 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) will host its annual Stand Down event.
