Historic Investments in Our Workforce

May 2, 2026

We're in the home stretch of the legislative session, and I'm proud that we passed a priority bill investing in our workforce. I'll break down how the policy supports first responders, veterans, and many other workers.

Historic Investments In Our Workforce

Connecticut House Democrats are making targeted, meaningful investments in the people who keep our communities strong — from first responders and veterans to nurses, teachers, and blue-collar workers.

We passed House Bill 5003, which I am proud to co-sponsor, backing those who serve by expanding support for police, firefighters, and veterans. That includes:

  • state-backed health insurance for families of fallen volunteer firefighters and state marshals
  • mortgage assistance for first responders
  • stronger recruitment and training efforts

The bill also sets up a pathway to help our veterans find a job. Too often, our heroes experience higher rates of unemployment as they transition from military service to civilian life. As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, I understand those challenges firsthand. This legislation can open doors to new opportunities in Connecticut.

This is about standing with the people who serve and support our state and making sure Connecticut continues to work for them.

Remembering the Armenian Genocide

It was an honor to join the community to recognize the strength, resilience, and enduring spirit of the Armenian people in Connecticut, across the country, and around the world.

I spoke at a ceremony marking 111 years since the Armenian genocide, a tragedy that took the lives of more than 1.5 million Armenians and forced more than 500,000 more from their homes between 1915 and 1923, under the rule of the Ottoman empire.

This dark chapter in history reminds us of the responsibility we all share to defend truth, preserve memory, and stand firmly against injustice. Recognition matters because healing, justice, and prevention begin with truth.

Thank you to everyone involved in keeping the history alive and for carrying the legacy of their ancestors forward with such courage and pride.

Celebrating Hartford

It was a pleasure to join my colleagues from the Hartford delegation and celebrate our city! Hartford is rich in history, culture, and community spirit, and it’s always inspiring to come together to recognize the people, organizations, and small businesses that make our capital city so special.

I’m grateful to work alongside dedicated partners who are committed to strengthening opportunities for our residents and building an even brighter future for our city.

Puppies Visit the Capitol
I had a moment to relax and take a break from debating bills as I held a puppy at the State Capitol. The Connecticut Humane Society brightened our day by showing off the adorable pets up for adoption. CLICK HERE to see all their pets looking for their forever home.
