Dear Neighbor,

I joined the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness (CCEH), members of the End Homelessness Caucus, and other legislators and advocates for a press conference to announce the CT CAN End Homelessness 2026 Legislative Agenda.

Rep. Sweet and I started the ‘End Homelessness Caucus' as a way to address a growing and relevant issue in our state. Although Connecticut has a reputation for being affluent, many residents throughout the state are unhoused or do not have consistent shelter. It was wonderful to meet with likeminded individuals and talk through what can be done to help today, as well as what can be done to prevent homelessness in the future.

Black History Month is a time to rejoice, reflect, and remember that Black history is American history.

In Connecticut, we have a rich history of Black Americans shaping our communities. I encourage you to explore the following resources to learn more about Black History in Connecticut, and to attend local events taking place over the next month:

The State of Connecticut published a piece about why we celebrate Black History Month, resources to learn more about this history, and events.

The Connecticut Tourism Office detailed the various landmarks and museums you can visit to explore Black History in Connecticut, along with events throughout the month.

Black History is something to be celebrated by all Connecticut residents, and I hope you'll look through these wonderful resources.

Temperatures will once again drop over the weekend. Please see the flyer below for information on warming centers in Norwalk.

Unhoused residents in need of overnight shelter should call 2-1-1 (CT United Way/infoline). Calling 2-1-1 will allow community members to connect with local shelters and access transportation to a shelter or community-based provider.

ICYMI- The Norwalk NAACP Branch, Norwalk Public Library and SoNo Entertainment are collaborating for an event called  "Rhythm of Our Roots",  a discussion of the history of Black Music in America. The event will be held on February 21 at the Norwalk Public Library. Please see the flyer below for more information.

The Norwalk Public Library will hold an event titled Celebrate a Century of Black History tomorrow morning from 10 AM - 11 AM. The two guest speakers will hold a discussion about Black life and culture. You must RSVP  to attend this event. Please see the flyer for more information.

Norwalk Public Schools will hold the 4th annual Black History & Heritage Festival on Thursday, February 26 from 5:45 PM - 8 PM at Norwalk High School.

This event will feature student performances and presentations on Black history and culture, as well as local Black-owned business fair.

On Wednesday, I will hold a press conference to discuss my proposed bill about juvenile justice at 10 AM. If you can, I'd encourage you to come up to the Capitol to watch!
