Updates from State Rep. Gary Turco for May 1, 2026

May 1, 2026

Doctors, nurses, and Polish Day at the Capitol.

I’ve been visited by so many Newington and New Britain residents this week to discuss various priority pieces of legislation.

Here are a few amazing people you might recognize as your neighbors!

Please take some time to watch the video here for my session update.

Hot Dog Lunch

Speaking of meeting Newington residents, thank you to everyone who attended the hot dog lunch at the venerable Doogie's, hosted by me, Rep. Kate Farrar, and Sen. Matt Lesser.

I say this often because it's true. It's always rewarding having face-to-face conversations with residents of the 27th District on the issues that are most important to them.

Thank you again and I look forward to having more discussions in the district.

Supporting Universal School Breakfast

Thank you to Governor Lamont and Lt. Governor for coming to Newington’s John Wallace Middle School last week to express their strong support for universal free for students school breakfast, and free lunch for students who now receive reduced prices based on family eligibility.

With food costs skyrocketing due to the war in Iran, high gas prices, and federal government tariffs, on top of federal cuts to state food assistance programs, Connecticut must act to ensure no child goes hungry while learning.

There’s less than two weeks until the last day of the 2026 session and I will be working hard every day with many of my colleagues to get this passed into law.

Puppy Day!

Monday was one of my favorite days of the year—🐶 Puppy Day at the State Capitol! 🏛️💙

Hosted by Newington’s own Connecticut Humane Society, this event is always a highlight and a great reminder of the joy our furry friends bring into our lives. 🐾

I’m proud to be working alongside the Connecticut Humane Society to help prevent the sale of dogs from puppy mills here in our state — and I’m hopeful we’ll have a vote on this important legislation soon. 🐕🚫

Please consider adopting your next dog, cat, or other pet — because every animal deserves a safe, loving home. ❤️🐶🐱

Hate Crime Program

Please see the flyer below on an important program co-hosted by Newington's Chief of Police Christopher Perry.
