The federal government’s most recent proposal to cutback eligibility requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) could result in over 11,000 Connecticut residents losing access to food assistance.

We’re just a few days away from a new law taking effect that will help contribute to a better environment. Our statewide efforts to curb the use of single-use plastic bags goes into effect on Aug. 1.

I am pleased to report Governor Lamont’s signing of the “Mental Health Parity Act” which will increase access to insurance coverage for mental health and substance abuse conditions.

Along with the heat a number of new laws took effect July 1, including benefits for first responders who have been determined to have post-traumatic stress disorder after experiencing a traumatic event while on the job.
