Our fiscally responsible budget is producing results. For the second time in four months, credit ratings agencies have upgraded the rating they use to determine the interest rates on our bonds. That means lower borrowing costs long-term.

I had a great time this morning speaking to students at Mansfield Middle School! Many wrote thoughtful essays for my essay challenge, and I was happy to award the most persuasive writers with congratulatory citations from the CT General Assembly!

Water is our most precious natural resource and must be protected and preserved for future generations. Because in the past Connecticut has not had a cohesive policy, my colleagues and I in the House took a significant step to safeguard our water supply.

Hourly minimum-pay employees are moving closer to a living wage. The House has approved House Bill 5004 to increase the minimum wage incrementally to $15 in 2023. The last time the minimum was increased was in 2017. No one who works full-time should have to live in poverty.

I recently spoke with Kathleen Megan of the CT Mirror about Connecticut's possibility of offering free college tuition. This would greatly benefit our state, and I am excited about the possibility of it coming to fruition. The article she wrote sums up the issue.

Our state’s small businesses are the backbone of our economy. They offer jobs, economic growth and highlight the best Connecticut has to offer. As your state representative, I believe we can do more to better support our small business owners and employees here in Connecticut.

Rep. Gregg Haddad praises Mansfield Middle School students who joined other youths around the globe to raise awareness of climate change. “Students are the most important constituency for this,” Haddad told them. “We understand that you’re going to be living in this world long after us and the decisions we’re making today will be very impactful on your lives.”

Governor Lamont has presented his budget proposal and for the next few months Representative Haddad will work with colleagues to examine it, negotiate the necessary changes and ultimately pass a final budget that meets the needs of Connecticut.
