State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan (D–Bethel, Danbury) released the following statement after legislation expanding access to Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangements (MEWAs) failed to advance in the Appropriations Committee:

I want to take a moment to explain my vote in favor of HB 5044, a bill focused on vaccines and public health.

At its core, this legislation is about access, affordability, and stability.

Last week, I had the chance to visit the after-school program at Kind Works, a program I was proud to help fund through the state budget.

We talk a lot about “investing in our communities,” but today I got to see what that actually looks like.

Over the past several months, I’ve been proud to lead legislation alongside Representative Tammy Nuccio to modernize Connecticut’s fertility coverage laws.

Today, a bill I raised to strengthen safety review for certain housing developments was voted out of committee, moving it to the floor of the House for consideration.
