I hope this message finds you and your family well and staying cool on these warm days.
I am excited to share that Pomfret received state funding this week through the Open Spaces and Watershed Acquisition (OSWA) Grant Program for the Abbott Property on Brayman Hollow Road (Rt. 244). This is a program through the State Department of Environmental and Energy Protection (DEEP) to assist in the purchase and protection of open spaces around the state.
The Abbott Property is adjacent to conservation land owned by the Wyndham Land Trust (WLT) and is part of the Nightingale Forest. With this acquisition, WLT will own about 75% of the frontage on Nightingale Brook. The public will have access to new hiking trails in the forest with an existing parking area located on Quarry Road in Woodstock. This investment is a huge win for our community and is a major step in protecting open spaces in the state.
