Dear Neighbor,

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. May your day be filled with warmth and moments of gratitude, surrounded by friends and loved ones - and good food.

Remembering Representative Kevin Ryan

It is with great sadness that I learned of the recent passing of State Representative Kevin Ryan.

Before joining the Legislature, I had the honor of serving as his Constituent Engagement Coordinator in the Connecticut House Democratic Caucus. It was the honor of a lifetime to work for, and learn from, a man like him.

For 30+ years, Kevin served Southeastern Connecticut in the House of Representatives diligently and was a constant presence throughout the region. His presence was respected by many, and I’ll never forget on the night of my election, when he came by to offer support and congratulations, we cheered when he entered because we respected him so much.

I will miss his wisdom, notoriously dry sense of humor, and our Session Day conversations. Thank you Kevin for the lessons and laughs you provided along the way.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones. Rest in peace my friend.

Emergency Shelters and Service Centers

If you are in need of a warm place to stay this week, there are options available.

You can click this link to visit 211's website and see emergency shelters and service centers in the New London area that are ready and willing to help. Please visit the websites of these organizations for further information.

And if you are fortunate enough to have safe and secure housing, please consider volunteering this holiday and giving back to your neighbors that need help the most. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, let's do what we can to help out our community.

Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday, which is November 29 this year, shines a spotlight on locally owned businesses. It encourages folks to shop small and support their communities during the busy holiday shopping season.

By participating, you can find unique, personalized gifts while contributing to the local economy by keeping money within your community. Small Business Saturday fosters a sense of connection, strengthening neighborhoods and ensuring that local businesses, often the heart of their communities, continue to thrive.

Shop small in our community and support small businesses.

Discussing Debates at Groton Middle School

It was a great time visiting students at Groton Middle School recently to talk about debate skills and why debates are so important in our society today.

With the uptick in political violence we've seen this year, it's more important than ever to learn how to debate with people and respect those we disagree with. I was extremely impressed with the debate the students had on using taxpayer dollars to pay for SNAP, and I can tell they all have very bright futures ahead of them.
