| Celebrating Passover and Easter |
|
|
This week, many members of the community will observe sacred and deeply meaningful religious holidays.
On Wednesday evening, families of the Jewish faith will gather for the start of Passover, celebrating faith, resilience, and freedom. On Friday, Christians will observe Good Friday, and the week culminates on Easter Sunday, when Christians celebrate a message of hope, renewal, and new life.
These observances remind us of the enduring power of reflection and community in our shared world. To all who are celebrating, I wish you and your families a meaningful and peaceful holiday. |

| Stratford CTDOT Noise Barrier Replacement |
|
|
|
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will start noise barrier replacement on I-95 between Exit 32-33 in Stratford, starting on April 1st.
This project is expected to be completed on Sunday, April 4th, 2027.
The barrier has reached the end of its useful life and needs replacement. The barrier is being replaced to conform to current standards, which are in accordance with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) MASH standards. The existing timber noise barriers have wood rot, broken or missing panels in many areas, as well as vegetative overgrowth.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Motorists can expect lane closures on I-95 northbound at Exit 32-33 in Stratford beginning Wednesday. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. Lane closure operations will generally be limited to off-peak and nighttime hours. No lane closures will be permitted during weekday morning and afternoon peak travel periods (6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.). During daytime hours, work will primarily consist of shoulder closures only. One lane closure may occur during late morning and evening hours. During the overnight hours, up to two lane closures are permitted and rolling roadblocks.
The work schedule for this project is from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.

| Menopause Equity Roundtable Discussion |
|
|
|
This Wednesday, April 1st, I attended the Menopause Equity Roundtable Discussion hosted by YWCA, UConn Health, and Representative Kai Belton. This was an engaging conversation about the impacts of Menopause. I was grateful to hear from experts on the absence of Menopause research, the lack of workplace accommodations, and the disparities in access to care across our communities. This session, there are two proposed bills to address Menopause care:
- S.B. 353 An Act Concerning Reasonable Accommodations in the Workplace for Conditions Related to Menopause
- H.B. 5389 An Act Concerning a Provider Toolkit for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Menopause, Premenopause, and Postmenopause
Menopause affects ALL women, and we need to increase support and resources across our state.

In light of the federal government’s recent actions on immigration, it is necessary for the State of Connecticut to articulate and clarify the State’s policy and legal position regarding immigration matters.

- in accordance with that policy, Office of the Attorney General is deeply committed to safeguarding our community, and respecting, honoring, and protecting Connecticut’s immigrants and immigrant families;
- all personnel in the Office of the Attorney General are hereby directed to take such actions necessary to implement this policy within our legal authority and in compliance with state and federal law;

| Free Tax Assistance Services |
|
|
With the tax deadline approaching on April 15th, now is the time to take action if you haven’t filed yet. There are several free resources available this year for anyone who needs to file state and federal taxes.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax help for low-to moderate-income people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Volunteers, sponsored by various organizations, receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. Visit Connecticut's 2-1-1 website and the Free Tax Help page for VITA assistance updates, or visit the IRS Site Locator.
AARP's Tax-Aide Program, a partnership between the AARP Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service, provides free tax counseling and preparation services to middle-and low-income taxpayers, with special attention to people age 60 and older. Many sites will e-file your federal and Connecticut returns at no cost to you. Visit the AARP Tax-Aide Site Locator to find a location near you.
The UConn Law School Tax Clinic is a pro bono (free) legal clinic that provides free legal help to low-income taxpayers with tax problems, either with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS). Lisa Perkins, Clinical Professor & Director, and law students will work on your case. The Tax Clinic also works with attorneys in Connecticut who volunteer to help low-income taxpayers pro bono. The Tax Clinic is independent and separate from the IRS and DRS. It is important to note that the UCONN tax clinic is only able to assist individual taxpayers with Connecticut income tax problems. Contact Lisa Perkins at lisa.perkins@uconn.edu or 860-570-5165 |
