Happy First Day of Spring! 🌷

The 2026 short legislative session continued this week as committees worked through long public hearings listening to state agencies, advocates, and professionals. Multiple committees also met this week and passed bills that will now be referred to screening and other committees as deemed appropriate. This is part of the legislative process that occurs prior to bills eventually making it to the House and Senate Floors for a vote. It has been a very busy and productive week at the Capitol, with many of the committees holding public hearings on crucial bills, listening to testimony from hundreds of advocates, professionals, and residents on proposed bills. Many other committees have held meetings to debate which bills will continue moving through the legislative process and on to the House and Senate Floors, which is known as JFing a bill. Upcoming House Session, Proposed Legislation

February 20, 2026

This week at the Capitol, committees continued to hold meetings to raise concepts for the 2026 legislative session and public hearings to hear directly from advocates, professionals, and residents across the state on legislative priorities. Thank you to all the nurses, educators, social workers, and other professionals who attended the Higher Education and Employment Advancement public hearing on CHESLA this week. Your input helps continue to push these policies forward through the legislative process. Next week, the House will be in session again on Thursday, February 26th.

Kicking off the 2026 Legislative Session, Session Resources, and more

The Connecticut General Assembly kicked off the 2026 Legislative Session this Wednesday. During a Joint Session Wednesday afternoon, House and Senate members sat together in the House Chamber as Governor Lamont delivered the State of the State Address. Thursday afternoon, the House was back in session to vote on the Governor's recently proposed plan to allow the Emergency State Response Reserve to continue through the 2027 fiscal year.
