This Spring I had the tremendous pleasure of touring the Bigelow Tea Company facility in Fairfield with Cindi Bigelow, CEO and President, and members of her team. It was a great opportunity to learn about Bigelow’s operations and better understand how Connecticut can work with local businesses to foster economic growth.

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill recently announced a new tool to track business formation in Connecticut. Her office has worked with the Connecticut Data Collaborative to launch a site, Ctbusiness.ctdata.org, which pinpoints where business activity is happening in the state and makes this data accessible to the public.

This past week, I was thrilled to meet with and run into fellow Fairfield residents working on everything from women's business, GMO labeling, green energy, maritime issues and training of Yale residents. I am so proud of the people of this community who continue to make our state a wonderful to place to live, work and enjoy the natural world.

I received an award by the Connecticut Chapter of the National MS Society for my work on legislation that promoted accessibility for persons living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and other disabilities during MS Action Day at the Capitol.

I applaud the approval today by the State Bond Commission of funds I championed for a Rooster River Study and the Center for Family Justice.

It was an honor to join Tara Cook-Littman and Ben and Jerry’s own Jerry Greenfield to advocate for GMO labelling in CT, HB 5300.

Anna Gold, a Fairfield Woods middle schooler, understood the danger and wrote a letter to State Representative Cristin McCarthy Vahey in 2015, asking that Connecticut ban the micro-bead.
