After the state House of Representatives met Oct. 3 to consider overriding the veto of the GOP-backed budget, the Republicans refused to call the question for a vote. Now, it is time for us to work together and compromise with the governor and the Republicans to reach a bipartisan agreement on a final budget. To move Connecticut forward, we need to adopt a spending package that invests in our workforce, makes long-term structural changes, and provides municipalities with additional budget flexibility.

Gov. Malloy says he’s prepared to make compromises, but the GOP budget is unacceptable because it raises taxes, defunds pensions and takes money away from the state university system.

We are having fundraising efforts across the state to help Puerto Rico in the aftermath of the recent Hurricanes. Please stop by and help if you can.

I was happy to join my colleague, Bobby Sanchez and others at New Britain’s Puerto Rican Social & Cultural Festival to help raise funds for our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters who were hit by Hurricane Irma.

I was honored to join my some of my colleagues and members of the legislature’s Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC), several community activists, clergy members, and state and local officials, at a Peace & Unity Rally speaking against hateful and bigoted speech that has become more and more concerning during the last few weeks.

Proud to stand with my colleagues, advocates, families and others at the State Capitol for a rally in support of care providers for the state Department of Developmental Services. The critical services providers offer to our special needs constituents is extraordinary and I will continue to fight for the protection of their state funding.
