New Year Brings New Laws
December 22, 2023Many of the new state laws passed during the 2023 legislative session take effect on January 1, 2024.
Some of the various issues addressed by the new laws include early voting, healthcare services, as well as online privacy and data protection.
Also on January 1, the state's minimum wage will increase from $15.00 to $15.69 as a result of 2019 legislation, which implemented five incremental increases followed by future adjustments based on the federal employment cost index.
Minimum Wage Rises with New Year

Presidential Primary Moved to Early April

Financial Literacy Added to High School Curriculum
September 20, 2023A half-credit course on personal financial management has been added to the required curriculum to graduate from Connecticut public high schools.
Investing in Higher Education
August 30, 2023This year we made significant strides in supporting higher education, helping to ensure a brighter future for our students with more opportunities, expanded support, and financial relief.
During the 2023 legislative session, we allocated over $135 million more for higher education in our biennial state budget than initially proposed. We did this in order to support initiatives that reflect our commitment to help address the growing challenges faced by students and graduates.
