Dear Neighbor,

This Thursday, we remember the 2,996 lives lost on September 11th, 2001, the thousands who have died since due to exposure to toxic chemicals, and the countless lives that were forever changed. Of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the September 11th attacks, 161 had ties to Connecticut. On this solemn anniversary, we reflect on the tragic events of 9/11 and honor every life taken. May we never forget the people whose lives were stolen from us through this act of terror, and all of the first responders, construction crews, service members, and everyday citizens who saved lives and helped our country rebuild. Their loved ones are in our hearts on this difficult day.

Though we move further away from that fateful day each year, we must continue to honor those Americans we lost and never stop the fight against terror and for peace.

Lake Success

I recently joined some of my legislative colleagues from the Stratford and Bridgeport delegations at Lake Success to discuss future conservation plans for the shared land site. From 1905 until 1989, Remington Arms used the Lake Success property to test large- and small-caliber munitions manufactured in Bridgeport. Today, the property is owned by Sporting Goods Properties, Inc., a subsidiary of Corteva Agriscience, the successor to DuPont and Remington Arms. Currently, Bridgeport and Stratford have a combined open space of 10.5% and adding this site in conservation land increases our open space land area by 16%.

World Suicide Prevention Day

This Wednesday, September 10th, we recognized World Suicide Prevention Day. September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and every year on September 10th, we raise awareness and support those who are struggling. In Connecticut, there are many resources available to those in need.
