With the 2025 Legislative Session over, I'm going to use these updates to highlight a piece of legislation that we passed along with a brief explainer.

As of today, we less than two weeks left until the end of session. Each day, we continue to debate legislation and some bills have been approved by the House and are headed to the Senate for passage.
This week, we passed workers’ compensation legislation that, had we not acted, would have resulted in a potential 265% increase in workers’ compensation benefits, which would have cost Connecticut businesses millions of dollars. We also approved legislation to cover the Medicaid shortfall that occurred in the current budget. Like many other expenses we are required to pay, covering the cost of this shortfall is critical to future budgets.

House Democrats took action on Wednesday in passing legislation that limits when warehouse employers use production quotas.

We had a productive week at the Capitol, including the passage of two small, but important bills out of the Higher Education Committee, of which I am chair. I'm proud to say both bills passed without a dissenting vote. 

Committee work is nearly complete, which means full sessions will begin to ramp up next week and in May. The legislature's next full session is scheduled for April 28.

The UConn basketball teams get a lot of deserved attention. But I invited the student management team of HuskyTHON to the start of the legislative session on Wednesday, recognizing its remarkable work for Connecticut Children's Hospital, the only health system in Connecticut entirely focused on pediatric health and wellbeing.

On Wednesday, I held a press conference with state college students on increasing funding for higher education.
