Today, we will see people from all walks of life posting about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., sharing quotes photos, and portions of his speeches.

His leadership led to the success of the civil rights movement. His actions played a pivotal role in achieving strides toward racial equality.

Winter made itself very noticeable this week and I hope you went through both storms easily. I’m including information on Operation Fuel today for those of you who may need assistance in paying your utilities.

Session 2024 is a “short” session for the Connecticut General Assembly, we aren’t in the building every day. We will have opening day next month on February 7th. While we have three very short months to get our work for this session accomplished, I am really looking forward to the many good pieces of legislation we will ultimately pass.

We had a great event at the Avon Senior Center with Eversource last week. In addition to receiving a lot of information on how to receive assistance on their utilities, we also learned how to lower our utility bills, and several constituents received direct help on specific issues.

Because of you, more of the 1,000+ people living outdoors right now have a chance to survive the cold, even as our shelters are at more than 100% capacity and as I continue to advocate for funding to both prevent people from becoming unhoused and to get the unhoused sheltered this winter.

In the wake of the tragedy, people have often marked the day by committing random acts of kindness and perhaps that’s something you might consider doing as you go about your daily life tomorrow.

Frequently, our work is connecting our constituents to resources at the state level that may help solve a problem they are having. Often, we meet with constituents, advocates, and associations/organizations to hear the challenges they are facing and how there may be a legislative solution that could be proposed in the next session.
