After the state House of Representatives met Oct. 3 to consider overriding the veto of the GOP-backed budget, the Republicans refused to call the question for a vote. Now, it is time for us to work together and compromise with the governor and the Republicans to reach a bipartisan agreement on a final budget. To move Connecticut forward, we need to adopt a spending package that invests in our workforce, makes long-term structural changes, and provides municipalities with additional budget flexibility.

It was a pleasure to join the CT Boxing Commission and my colleagues for their Boxing Retreat at the Webster Arena.

As leaders of the legislature’s Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC), our vice-chair, Rep. Brandon McGee and I, today sent a letter to Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation in Washington, DC pleading for federal help for Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria which left total devastation on the island.

Each year, more than $2 billion in state education aid is distributed to towns and cities through entirely arbitrary block grants. There is no strategic approach that reflects the state's priorities, the needs of students or what cities and towns can afford. There is no "formula." That's why the way the state distributes school aid is now in the courts. It is the responsibility of the legislative branch, working with the executive branch, to adopt a fair school finance system for Connecticut.

Chair of the Black & Puerto Rican Caucus, State Representative Christopher Rosario (D-Bridgeport) and co-chair, State Representative Brandon McGee (D-Windsor/Hartford) issued the following joint statement regarding the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA):

I was honored to lead the members of the legislature’s Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC), along with our vice chair, Rep. Brandon McGee (D-Hartford/Windsor), and several community activists, clergy members, and state and local officials, at a Peace & Unity Rally speaking against hateful and bigoted speech that has become more and more concerning during the last few weeks.

The Bridgeport legislative delegation praised Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's signing of legislation that will give the city and its taxpayers some relief needed to help steady Bridgeport's financial footing.

Despite the fiscal challenges of the 2017 legislative session, the Bridgeport delegation passed key bills that will steady the city’s financial footing, increase economic development, reduce Bridgeport’s unfunded pension liability and create an entertainment hub downtown. These pieces of legislation will not only take Bridgeport decades into the future, but it will also allow the city to become a regional job creator and leader in renewable energy. Even in this tough economic climate, I am pleased that as a legislative delegation we came together to deliver for Bridgeport!
