On Wednesday, I held a press conference with state college students on increasing funding for higher education.

The Mansfield Board of Education is in the process of selecting a new superintendent of schools.  The school district is holding a series of focus groups via Zoom to gather input from a variety of constituents on the what people are looking for in their new superintendent.

I had another productive week at the State Capitol, with committee work winding down. A number of important pieces of legislation have been advanced in the areas of higher education, housing, special education, childcare and long-term care insurance, among other things.

I was proud to vote for a bill allocating $40 million in immediate relief to cover special education costs for school districts across the state. Mansfield Public Schools and Regional School District 19 will receive nearly $100,000 as part of this funding, which will help students receive the specialized support they need. 

On Monday, I proudly voted for a bill injecting $40 million to fund special education, giving immediate support to more than 140 school districts in our state.

The higher education community is facing daunting challenges. To address one of the more pressing issues, on Thursday, I stood with students, colleagues and advocates in support of Senate Bill 5, which seeks to make the largest increase in scholarship funding in decades, investing in college accessibility and a highly skilled workforce.

With the session in full swing, I want to provide you with the information and tools to follow along with what I and my fellow legislators are doing.

I understand there is a lot of uncertainty, anxiety concern over the recent attempt by the federal government to pause non-defense and Social Security spending, as well as the ramping up of arrests of immigrants in our communities.
