Bradley Airport Enters Casino Game

The Connecticut Airport Authority is proposing a casino at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, as developers of a competing casino in Springfield have scaled back their plan. The authority is looking to host a casino that the operators of Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun want to open in the capital region, under a state-sanctioned process.

Rep. Peggy Sayers, who represents Windsor Locks and Windsor, said the proposal is worth a closer look. “Obviously, it brings jobs to the area and, for the town, it expands the tax base,” Sayers said.

Study Finds $15 Minimum Wage Not Enough

The Alliance for a Just Society, a progressive advocacy group, released a report that said a $15 minimum wage isn’t sufficient in a state where adult employees need to make $19.03 per hour to cover basic needs, and Rep. Peter Tercyak said the future looks bleak for low-income workers.

“I have already been getting calls to bring back the McWalmart bill by people who are outraged by the cuts to Medicaid that are hurting our hospitals and community providers,” Tercyak said.
