Connecticut recently got a national shout-out for adopting a state budget that includes a variety of tax cuts for those who need the most help such as working families and retirees.

After months of negotiations, we delivered a two-year state budget that includes the largest income tax cut in state history and significant critical investments including additional funding for our schools.

For the past 20 years, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has recognized Mental Health Awareness Month (MHAM) every May to increase awareness about the vital role mental health plays in our overall health and well-being.

With many families in Connecticut facing added financial strain due to rising prices, the legislature went into special session earlier this week to provide some relief.

An additional $1 billion boost in federal funding to the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), allowing for more households to receive the benefit in the state, has been allocated as part of an emergency supplemental aid package recently approved by Congress.

The House also acted toward improving equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare by strengthening transparency and monitoring cost growth with HB 5042.

I applaud bond funds approved by the State Bond Commission during its special meeting on Thursday, which total millions for infrastructure improvement projects in Wethersfield and Rocky Hill.

Wethersfield will receive $4 million for improvements to street lighting, public parking and infrastructure throughout the town, and library renovations.
