Earlier this month, the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA was notified that the U.S. Senate passed a bill for 2024 that included $520,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending for improvements at YMCA Camp Sloper. 

Connecticut Ag Day at the State Capitol was a delight this week, especially because it offered some time for a visit with Southington’s Agriculture Science students and their teacher, Patrick O’Keefe. It was great to hear about their interests and the premier Ag Sci program that we proudly host at Southington High School.

It was a highlight this week to welcome Southington High School students to the State Capitol, along with Superintendent Steven Madancy and Board of Education Chair Colleen Clark. During their “Day on the Hill” we talked about the students’ legislative priorities and toured the House Chamber.

This week, I joined a number of colleagues at a press conference to show support for our law enforcement officers. Specifically, I attended due to concerns over proposals put forth this session that could be detrimental to the recruitment and retention of state and local officers, and the overall safety of Connecticut's residents.

Today, on behalf of Southington’s legislative delegation, State Representative Francis Rexford Cooley and I were honored to present an official state citation to the Friday Morning Breakfast Club in recognition of Plate It Forward Southington Week.

It was an honor to advocate for proper state funding of our schools alongside Mackenzie Stewart, a Plantsville resident and 11th grade student at the CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering.

Last Wednesday, the 2024 Legislative Session officially opened as the House of Representatives met to start doing the people's work and hosted a joint session of the Connecticut General Assembly to hear Governor Lamont's State of the State address.

It was awesome to attend the Southington Public Library’s Take Your Child to the Library Day event on Saturday with Connecticut's Kid Governor, Cristiano Almeida of Southington, and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz. Special thanks to the Southington Public Library staff for highlighting the incredible impact libraries have in our town and in communities across our state.
