Dear Friends,

I have an exciting announcement about a new role I will be taking on in the legislature.

Starting this session, I will be serving on Speaker of the House Matt Ritter's leadership team as a newly-appointed Deputy Speaker of the House.

When the Speaker of the House is absent from the chamber, the Deputy Speaker presides over the House of Representatives, guiding legislative debates and proceedings. Beyond the chamber, this role also affords me the opportunity to work on legislation in all committees, effectively giving a louder voice to you, my constituents. I will be sure to keep you all up to date on the great work my colleagues and I are doing on your behalf.

Additionally, I've been named Caucus Co-Chair alongside my friend Representative Josh Elliott. Together we will mentor new Representatives, help with their legislation, and help House Democrats get information to you, our constituents, while creating new ways for you to interact with your elected leaders.

I'm honored to be trusted with these roles, and I look forward to my new responsibilities at the Capitol!

With my new role as Deputy Speaker comes my departure as House Chair of the Committee on Children.

Serving as chair of this committee for the last 6 years has been one of the biggest privileges of my career! I'm so proud of everything we've accomplished to help the next generation of Connecticut residents, including enhancing our mental health services, expanding access to early childhood education, protection for children on the autism spectrum, fighting childhood sex abuse, and more. I wish incoming House Chair Rep. Corey Paris the best of luck as he leads this committee next session!

Warmly,

Liz Linehan
