The legislative session officially concluded last Wednesday, and we got a lot done for the people of Connecticut. I can't wait to tell you about some of the amazing bills we passed, starting with our two-year budget.

For too long, Connecticut's special education model has faced fundamental flaws that prevented all students from receiving the proper education they deserve. With our recent passage of HB 5001: An Act Concerning the Quality and Delivery of Special Education Services in Connecticut, we are taking important steps to reform this system.

This bill, which passed 148-0 in the House on a bipartisan basis, makes historic investments for students in special education, delivers better access to services, and provides cost controls and greater transparency.

Monday is Memorial Day - a day of remembering and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. I hope you'll take the opportunity this long weekend to reflect on the bravery of those who gave their lives so we can live and prosper in our great nation, and to spend time connecting with your loved ones.

It is also worth reminding yourself to live a life that is meaningful and worthy of the sacrifices so many have made.

The New London Senior Center is a true gem in our community, offering enriching programs and meaningful experiences for our seniors. From health and wellness activities to social events and educational trips, the center empowers older adults to stay active, connected, and engaged.

They recently visited the State Capitol—where seniors had the opportunity to see the House chambers in action—and it was a powerful reminder of how valued and involved they are in civic life. The center continues to open doors to new opportunities, proving that it’s never too late to learn, explore, and see what’s happening in Hartford.

This past week marked a meaningful milestone as I had the privilege of presiding over a session at the Capitol for the first time in my new capacity as Deputy Speaker. It was a powerful and humbling experience, and I’m sincerely thankful for the trust and support shown to me.

A sincere thank you to Speaker Matt Ritter and his exceptional team for support. I will continue using this opportunity to lead with integrity, advocating for the people of New London and all of Connecticut.

This week, the House of Representatives came together in unity, passing HB 6442 — now known as the “Connecticut HERO Act” — with a resounding vote of 146-0-5.

Huge thanks to the Veterans’ & Military Affairs Committee for helping shape this meaningful, bipartisan legislation. The Connecticut HERO Act is more than policy — it’s a promise. Built through collaboration and a shared commitment, this act delivers real support for those who have proudly served our nation.

Saying “thank you for your service” is important — but action matters more. This is how we show our veterans that we have their backs, not just on Veterans Day, but every single day.
